Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, Andy and Linda Hakin on StFX campus

To the campus community,

It is with great sadness that I share the passing of a true Xaverian, The Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, Canada’s 18th Prime Minister and a member of the StFX Class of 1959.

Mr. Mulroney was a remarkable individual, a visionary and a true champion for St. Francis Xavier University. He cared deeply for StFX, and his commitment to our faculty, staff and our students was undeniable. Mr. Mulroney’s efforts over the years have truly transformed our campus and the way we deliver on our academic mission, spanning all facets of the student experience – from the construction of the Alumni Aquatic Centre decades ago, to the inspiring visionary behind the Brian Mulroney Institute of Government. Proud of our university, Mr. Mulroney took every opportunity to introduce StFX to other thought-leaders who would influence the way we educate.

We, as a community, will come together to pay our appropriate respects to an alumnus who has done so much for StFX, Canada and the world. More information will be shared in the days ahead as we look to celebrate his life.

Personally, I will always think with great affection and be grateful for the guidance and mentorship he provided me.

Tonight’s news is met with a sense of great loss for all Xaverians. On behalf of the entire StFX community, our prayers to Mila and his family.

Andy
