The Fr. Brewer Celtic Collection is located on the third level of the Angus L. Macdonald Library. The collection includes modern books, rare periodicals, manuscripts, rare books, and pamphlets.
The Celtic Collection serves as a research and teaching resource for students and faculty of the Celtic Studies Department. It also contains useful resources for related disciplines. Its mandate is to collect, preserve, and make accessible material relating to Celtic Studies. It also contains materials, described as, Nova Scotiana and Canadiana, which require special housing. The holdings are searchable in the Library catalogue.
Services
All members of the university community, as well as those outside the university, are welcome to use the resources and services of the Fr. Brewer Celtic Collection. Special Collections provides services for researchers including research assistance, distance research services, reproductions, and archival citation assistance. Please note, we are open Monday-Friday, 12:00PM-4:00PM from September-April. Outside these hours you can contact Special Collections Librarian, Laurinda Matheson.
Exhibits
The Fr. Brewer Celtic Collection curates rotating displays throughout the year. The two display cases are both located on the third floor of the Angus L. MacDonald Library. The larger of the two is located in the Welch Reading Room and the second display case can be found in the Hall of Clans outside the Celtic Collection doors. All our displays feature Special Collections' materials including some rare and unique items.
