Kara Thompson
Dr. Thompson’s research program focuses on youth substance use and mental health. She approaches her work from a combination of applied, population health, and developmental-contextual perspectives. Her work focuses on 1) understanding how mental health and substance use patterns develop across adolescence and young adulthood, 2) investigating the predictors and consequences of mental health and substance use patterns and 3) informing the development and evaluation of evidence-based policies and interventions to promote health, social responsibility, and healthy substance use patterns among young people.
Dr. Thompson’s current research efforts focus on investigating individual’s experiences of harm from other peoples drinking (second-hand effects) and alcohol advertising in digital media.
