StFX is proud to announce that Dr. Adam Lajeunesse, Associate Professor of Public Policy and Governance and Brian Mulroney Institute of Government Chair in Arctic & Maritime Security, was selected for the prestigious Fulbright Arctic Initiative. This Fulbright Visiting Fellowship is awarded every three years to a team of international scholars working at the cutting edge of Arctic research.

This fellowship builds on the Mulroney Institute’s drive to shape Canadian policy and deliver impactful research. Dr. Lajeunesse (along with two other colleagues) will represent Canada in this initiative, where he will examine Russian and Chinese information operations in the Arctic, tracking malign influence to better understand adversaries’ priorities and objectives in the circumpolar region.

Dr. Lajeunesse’s Fulbright work builds upon research undertaken in 2024 as a Visiting Killam Scholar at the University of Calgary – another of Canada’s most prestigious academic fellowships. In recent months, Dr. Lajeunesse has briefed some of this work to audiences at NATO HQ in Belgium and Global Affairs in Ottawa while written reports are scheduled to be released soon from the Wilson Centre in Washington, DC and the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence in Riga, Latvia.

“The selection of Dr. Adam Lajeunesse for this Fulbright Arctic Initiative, as well as his recent Visiting Killam Scholar award, is a testament to his accomplishments as a leading scholar on Arctic security and defence policy issues,” noted Dr. Richard Isnor, Associate Vice President, Research Graduate and Professional Studies. “Adam is widely sought out to provide evidence-based advice to government and international organizations, such as NATO, and his area of research has become critically important to national security.”

For the Fulbright, Dr. Lajeunesse will visit Norway and Greenland as well as undertake a six-week exchange in Colorado, where he will work with the University of Denver and the US Air Force Academy and build on past working relationships with NORAD and US Northern Command.
