Biography

Angela completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Nutrition at Saint Francis Xavier University, then went on to do her accredited Dietetic Internship at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. Angela continued her education at Cape Breton University to receive a Masters of Education with thesis work on School Food Culture and the Future of Plant-Based Choices. For three years she worked as a diabetes dietitian for the Weeneebayko Health Authority (WHA) in Northern Ontario to provide outpatient diabetes services to seven fly-in Cree First Nation communities and became certified as Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). During her last two years with the WHA she took on the role of diabetes coordinator. Angela went on to work for 17 years as a community dietitian for the Union of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq where she provided group based dietetic services to all 13 Mi’kmaq communities in Nova Scotia. Angela has strong interests in nutrition and chronic disease, sustainable food choices, plant-based eating and ways to support lifelong cultural competence.
