Staff

The St. Francis Xavier Animal Care Facility is run by our Animal and Plant Care Staff who are responsible for all aspects of animal care, health and well-being and for providing quality animal care for teaching and research in the departments of: Biology, Human Kinetics, Human Nutrition, Psychology, and Aquatic Resources. The staff also look after the greenhouse located on the roof of J. Bruce Brown Hall.

Jennifer van den Heuvel
Senior Animal Care and Plant Technician

Jennifer has worked in the Animal Care Facility since 1993. She was promoted to the Senior position in September of 2014. When not at work, Jen spends time with her family and enjoys gardening. She is currently a 4-H Leader for the Heatherton 4-H Club.
 

Nellie Wood
Animal and Plant Care Technician

Nellie has been working in the animal care facility since March, 2023. Originally from PEI, Nellie graduated from Dalhousie University’s Agricultural Campus before moving to Antigonish. Nellie enjoys gardening and spending time outdoors when she is not at work.
