In addition to our academic buildings, food services remain available at:
Starbucks from 8 am through 9 pm
Morrison Hall from 11 am through 2 pm and 4:30 through 6:30 pm

The following is the latest information regarding Hurricane Lee from the Province of Nova Scotia and Environment Canada. Hurricane Lee continues to accelerate towards the Maritimes. To the campus community,
The university is monitoring Hurricane Lee. Hurricane Lee is still too far away to predict how it will affect Atlantic Canada. StFX participates in the broader regional emergency planning for the area. We will continue to monitor the storm over the course of the week and commit to keeping the campus updated as new and relevant information arises. Please continue to monitor StFX Alerts, the StFX website, emails, social media, and local radio stations for further updates.
StFX Alerts is a notification service that allows registrants to opt-in to receive emergency messages via text, email (i.e. can be a different address than your StFX-issued email), and/or voice message. The system will be an addition to, and does not replace, the tools currently used to communicate to campus -- use of campus-wide email, StFX social networks, local media, etc. Enrolment is not mandatory; however, we do encourage all members of the community to register. Go to www.alerts.stfx.ca today to register.
In the coming days, a link to a web page will be sent to the campus community that will be used as a hub for more information.
Thank you,
Monica Foster
Vice-President, Finance & Administration
Please be advised that the Town of Antigonish Electric Utility has notified StFX University that a power outage is required to perform emergency repairs to the main line on Hillcrest Street. This outage will take place tonight between 12:00am and 2:00am. The outage will impact the MSB Complex (Camden, Marguerite, Immaculata and Gilmora) including Nursing and the Day Care. Life Safety Systems and emergency lighting will be powered by the building generator.
The remainder of the campus will not be impacted.
Questions or concerns should be directed to Kevin Latimer @ 902-870-0750
Facilities Management regrets any inconvenience that this may cause.
Please note that the outage tonight will also impact areas off campus:
The Angus L. Macdonald Library is excited to announce that in conjunction with IT Services, we will now be managing the circulation of the university's student laptop loaner fleet. Local StFX students can now request a laptop from anywhere, anytime, pending availability, directly from our online catalogue, or they can stop by the main service desk to borrow anything we may have in stock. For more information about this program, please visit https://www.stfx.ca/library/borrow/laptop-lending, or click the button below to book a laptop now.
Join us this weekend to cheer on the X-Men & X-Women in cross country, rugby, and soccer on the STFX campus! Tickets are free for all STFX students — present a valid student ID at the Keating Centre box office for your complimentary ticket.
We hope to see you there! #goxgo
To ALL StFX Employees (Faculty & Staff):
Welcome Days for new and returning students take place tomorrow, Friday, September 1st, 2023, and Monday, September 4th, 2023, respectively. The University is expecting over 1000 families to be on campus throughout both Welcome Days.
As a reminder, parking on campus on those days will be limited. In addition, Parking Area P14, the parking area near Bishops, P9 and P10 (near Keating Centre) will be closed on Friday, September 1st, 2023, and Monday, September 4th, 2023.
If you are able to walk or car pool on Friday, September 1st, 2023, and/or Monday, September 4th, 2023, it would greatly help reduce the number of vehicles on campus.
If you need to take a vehicle to campus, parking will be available in P2 (close to JBB), P12 (42 West Street) and on University property across the highway at P17 (the #7 garage. PLEASE be aware of construction in this area).

Immersion Service Learning (ISL) Program Description
ISL is an intense experiential learning opportunity that fosters exploration of classroom theories in real-world situations. While immersed in diverse communities in Canada and abroad, ISL groups meet with local leaders, visit sites of historic and political importance, participate in education sessions, and get hands-on service experience alongside local organizations and community members. Faculty leaders guide and facilitate reflection activities that encourage students to relate their experiences to global and social justice issues and think about service in a structured educational way through broader concepts like sustainability. Experiences are developed in collaboration with destination hosts to be reciprocal and mutually beneficial.
Immersion Service Learning Leader Position
Faculty and instructors employed at STFX for the upcoming academic year, are eligible to participate in the Immersion Service Learning Program as an Immersion Leader. In this role, you commit to participate fully in the program as outlined and prepare to travel during reading week or at the end of the term in April, depending on the destination. In return for this commitment, travel costs and experience fees for Immersion Leaders are covered by the Service Learning program (i.e., not funded by student participation fees).
Expression of Interest
A list of Immersion Leader opportunities and role specifics can be found in the attached appendix.
For further information, or to express interest in participating in ISL, contact Service Learning Program Manager, Megan Turner @email by August 18th, 2023.
Please include your name, department, and position. Indicate the destination(s) you would prefer, and briefly explain your interest in ISL and the destination.
