StFX’s Branding History
StFX has a reputation as one of Canada’s finest undergraduate universities. Xaverians feel a deep sense of connection to both the university community and the incredible town of Antigonish. StFX’s motto Quaecumque Sunt Vera (Whatsoever Things are True) perfectly captures our values of integrity, dignity, truth, and respect for all. StFX University prides itself on its strong sense of community and connection and will continue to use this as a source of strength for our future.
StFX has sported various looks over the years, the most recent of which represents the culmination of a rich and storied brand history. An updated brand has emerged that continues to represent a vibrant university community which exists to build our university the way it is meant to be.
The St. Francis Xavier University ring, commonly referred to as the X-Ring, is widely recognized throughout Canada, and indeed around the world. The X-Ring has become a tangible symbol of the X-Spirit and the Xaverian Family. The X-Ring was created during the Second World War. Before that, each graduating class appointed a committee to design a pin for their class with its own motto. In 1942 Willie “Locker” MacDougall created the design for a new ring instead. It had an X on it and the tradition of the X-Ring was born.
